Our Humble Beginnings

The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius (Annotation #19) were conducted at St. Anne’s and Kitchitwa Kateri churches, ended with a weekend retreat at Fr. Kroker and Fr. Murray’s log cabins at Sandy Beach on the Fort William First Nation. The lack of indoor bath and washroom facilities deterred several participants from remaining on site overnight.

In 2008, Father Larry Kroker s.j. and Fr. Michael Murray s.j., planned and initiated the structure of a suitable Spiritual Centre to resolve the problem, hiring the timber framer Paul McNabb who began the floor and timber frame structure that summer, Deacon Richard Baxter for the construction consult and and electrical work, then carpenter Stewart Collins and crew who closed it in. Don Tribe and Fred Morgan assisted in completing the interior.

About our Centre

The Centre nestles on a beautiful bay on Lake Superior with a panoramic view of The Sleeping Giant and the Welcome Islands.

Located at 785 Grand Point Road, Fort William First Nations it provides an opportunity to interact with nature in a setting of peace and solitude. Three unique, rustic facilities are available to accommodate different and diverse needs.

Spiritual development, retreats and workshops can be fully personalized to meet you or your groups needs.

Available all year.
All cabins are equipped with fireplaces.
Main cabin is fully modernized with kitchen facilities and sleeps 5-7.
Spiritual direction available.

In addition to regular programming we welcome community requests.
